“Dear Greenfield Mowers
I recently went through the pleasure
and pain of selecting and trailing all three major mower
brands of Australian rideon mowers.
I knew from the start that I only wanted
an Australian made machine – to cope with our conditions.
This singled it down to (Brand A), (Brand B) and Greenfield.
I visited a large mower supplier in
Reedy Creek, from which I was recommended a (Brand A)
mower. I bought a (Brand A). I wish I had not.
I had an hour meter added to the machine
– as I do not know how else to track servicing. The
first thing I noticed was the (Brand A) is exceptionally
unstable. A U-turn in my drive will lift a rear wheel.
The stability is unpredictable and has a quick onset
(i.e. you get no ‘feel’ for an imminent roll.)
Well, the (Brand A) burnt out the drive
at 3 hours.
I returned the machine – and the service man quizzed
me thoroughly – had I been using ‘reverse’ drive whilst
going forward down-hill? He stated that this ruins the
drive and the drive plates become pitted as a result.
(One wonders what ‘heel and toe’ means in their brochures.)
He replaced the cone under warranty – and stated that
I must use the foot brake for downhill.
I mowed on!
By 12 hours use, I had already adjusted the drive plates.
At 13 hours I noticed the brake felt funny. The welding
on the brake lever pivot-point had sheared away. So,
this means that one cannot use reverse nor is the brake
up to scratch. Obviously stopping is an optional extra
with a (Brand A).
I took the machine back.
The owner of the business stated that
the (Brand A) was completely unsuitable for my hilly
property – and (for an additional $$$) he would take
back the (Brand A) (at a reduced price) and I could
have the (Brand B) machine. This had wider tires, filled
with water, and a knob tread as an added extra, will
climb anything it is pointed at!
Within twenty minutes of using it on my property – I
could tell that it was a complete dud. Certainly more
stable, however we went into one wheel slip in the mildest
of slopes.
The gearing was causing a heap of problems
amongst our trees. The gearing was either fully locked
rear wheels of fully engaged driving …nothing in between.
It was c**p. I took the machine back.
I left the large, unhelpful, not-in-the-real-world
dealer in Reedy Creek and moved on up to Ashmore Mowers.
I have since bought a Greenfield from Ashmore Mowers
and I can only say it is a real delight. Both the customer
service and the mower have surpassed themselves.
Ashmore Mowers were practical, blunt,
friendly and knowledgeable – and had MY interests as
their concern.
The Greenfield is practical, stable, fast, strong, dependable
and a pleasure to drive.
The mower itself is excellent. Very
stable, good cut, smooth, strong and reliable.
Many thanks Greenfield for a great,
and safe, and stable mower. And thanks to your dealer
network.”
